Epworth

The History of Epworth Pianos

The Epworth Piano and Organ Company was founded in Chicago, Illinois, and was a piano line manufactured by Williams Piano and Organ Company. Established in 1855, the Williams Piano and Organ Company made several piano lines in addition to Epworth, but that was certainly one of their most popular pianos. Interestingly, one of the only ways one could purchase an Epworth piano was via mail order! The company didn’t have a showroom, per say, and took advantage of the popular advent of mail ordering to move their instruments. Sadly, like so many others, the Williams Piano and Organ Company closed at the onset of the Great Depression, and Epworth piano was discontinued forever. [1]

About Epworth Pianos

Epworth’s were particularly noted for their sweet tone. In addition to their beautiful sound, these instruments were built by skilled craftsmen who made great efforts to ensure the quality construction of each instrument. Noted for their reliability, the Epworth line was held in high regard by the musical community of the day. [2]

Restoring an Epworth Piano

Solid, quality pianos, Epworth’s can be worthy of restoration, but it largely depends on the model, as well as the current condition of the instrument. The more work that needs to be done, the more expensive the overall restoration will be. At market value, an Epworth piano can be worth as much as $16,000. To determine if your Epworth is a good candidate for restoration, contact Lindeblad’s experts. We are happy to answer any questions you might have about your instrument and the refurbishment process. We look forward to hearing from you!
