A Musical Icon
The shape of a grand piano is quite possibly the most iconic figure in all of music. The long swooping curves have come to symbolize the elegance and power of this versatile instrument.
Similarly, Steinway & Sons is easily the most recognized and sought after piano brand. Steinway grand pianos are used in 90% of piano concerts. The level of quality in the materials and craftsmanship of Steinway grand pianos has remained consistently high for more than a century. We know because the Lindeblad family has worked with the world's finest pianos for more than 90 years. Find out more about our story here.
Steinway grand pianos are produced in a range of lengths from the 5 foot 1 inch Model S, often referred to as a Steinway Baby Grand, up to the 8 foot 11 3/4 inch Model D, usually referred to as a Steinway Concert Grand. Typically, the longer the piano, the better the quality of sound it can produce.
D - 8' 11" | C - 7' 5" | B - 6' 10.5" | A3 - 6' 4.5" | A - 6' 1" or 6' 2" | L - 5' 10.5" | O - 5' 10" | M - 5' 7" | S - 5' 1"
This is the classic, unadorned look, and is the most common style of piano, particularly over the last several decades.
Victorian pianos have a moderate amount of carved adornment on the cabinet and lid. The legs are carved in one of several horizontally symmetrical patterns.
These pianos have more elaborate and extensive carvings. The legs have graceful, asymmetrical curves and ornamentation.
As the premier American manufacturer of grand pianos since 1857, Steinway commands a price premium on all new pianos. For example, the smallest Model S Steinway grand in basic black costs almost $60,000.
Select a larger model, more intricate adornments on the case, exotic wood veneer, or a special edition and the price rapidly increases. Top of the line Steinway's can cost nearly a quarter of a million dollars.
By comparison, a Steinway Model S that has been fully restored by Lindeblad can be had for less than half the price of a new Steinway Model S.
