For over a century, families have trusted Lindeblad to bring home the Steinway of their dreams.
For many years, my dream piano has been a Steinway Model B, and now that dream has finally come true. I’ve followed Lindeblad for several years, consistently impressed by the quality of their restorations and their reputation for integrity. A few years ago, I first reached out to Todd, and from that initial conversation I appreciated his honesty, depth of knowledge, and completely non-pressuring approach. He truly listened to what I wanted and guided me thoughtfully, never pushing—only advising. From that point forward, I knew that when the time came, Lindeblad would be part of the journey. About a year ago, I found a used Model M and contacted Todd again wondering if this was the piano to restore. After discussing my long-term goals, he gently encouraged me to wait for the right Model B—the piano I had always envisioned. That patience paid off. Soon after, they located two Model Bs from the ideal era, allowing me to secure one and be part of the restoration process from the beginning. Approximately six months ago, the restoration began. Just last week, my dream became reality when a beautifully restored Steinway arrived at my home—and it has exceeded every expectation I had. I am extremely particular and have very high standards for quality. Lindeblad surpassed them all. It is almost impossible to believe my piano is 89 years old. It looks brand new and is, without question, one of the finest pianos I have ever played. The tone is rich and complex, the touch is incredibly responsive, and the action was refined precisely to my specifications. It feels like an instrument built just for me. In early January, I flew out to meet the team in person. What you see online is exactly who they are—authentic, passionate craftsmen who genuinely care about their work and their clients. Watching true artistry and attention to detail firsthand was remarkable. I considered purchasing a new Steinway, but my heart was always set on a Golden Era instrument. I am so grateful I chose this path. The character, depth, and beauty of this piano simply cannot be replicated. I cannot recommend a Lindeblad restored Steinway highly enough. Their attention to detail is unmatched. The craftsmanship is rare in today’s world. The service and care—before, during, and after the sale—are exceptional. Throughout the entire process, the personal touches made me feel like their only customer. This has truly been one of the best buying experiences of my life.
From the time of my initial call to Lindeblad I felt confident I had finally located the company I wanted to work with for the piano I was seeking to purchase for my wife. We flew up from Florida, visited the show room to establish her preferences for tone and touch and then drove over to the remanufacturing plant where the vintage piano we had selected from the website was in storage. We toured the plant speaking with various of the craftsman. We placed our deposit on the spot! The piano we received was exactly what we selected! If in doubt, I encourage you to make the visit and meet Todd and the team at Lindeblad.
It was 2018 when I first contacted Todd at Lindeblad Piano Restoration about restoring a piano for me. I was so impressed with him and his unassuming and sincere manner. He took the time to fully explain their restoration process and was able to answer all my questions and concerns. I read reviews on the website and contacted a pianist that frequently demonstrated the restored pianos. All gave positive feedback and encouraging reviews of their experiences. I decided to go forward with plans to restore a Steinway B. My wife and I made a trip up to New Jersey to meet Todd and Paul and view their amazing restoration factory and see the old raw unrestored 1911 B they had picked for me. We also met Galo Torres who happened to be working on the new soundboard of my piano when we were there. The months passed and the long-anticipated delivery date became a reality. At first sight, the piano was beautiful and it was hard to believe it was the same piano we had seen in its raw unrestored state. I expected there would need to be quite a few adjustments to the piano in getting the touch and feel just right and I had my technician begin the adjustment process. There turned out to be more issues than I expected. While some issues were corrected there were many that were not. Then I noticed major flaws in the finish of the cabinet. After contacting Todd, a truck was immediately sent to take the piano back for rework and a loaner piano was provided for me to use in the interim. At that point I began to interact with Paul on a regular basis to address all my concerns. Given all that had been wrong with the piano including the cabinet flaws and the extensive work already done by my technician and still requiring yet more adjustment, I finally asked Paul to just keep the piano and I would look for something locally. Paul was so sorry and disappointed and asked me if I would please give him another chance at making things right. He said he knew he could fix everything. He was right. A couple of months later we came back to the factory to see the finished rework and were surprised (and relieved) to see the most beautifully refinished cabinet and to verify that adjustments were made to correct all the issues I had cited. In all our phone conversations and the two meetings we had, Paul and Todd were exceptional in ensuring I was very satisfied with the piano and all my issues and disappointments were taken care of. I think Paul personally handled most of the issues. Today, seven years later, I have the most gorgeous Steinway B in my living room. I get so much joy and satisfaction every day just by looking at it. I love the fact that the piano has a history and that it came from the golden era of the early 1900s. I love the window pane detail on the legs and the beading around the holes in the harp, all unique to the era. I did replace the entire keyboard which has resulted in the most perfect touch and feel that I could ever imagine. The sound of the rich bass to the bell-like treble is so satisfying. Two technicians I have had have both commented on the richness and uniqueness of the tone. They say it could stand on any concert stage and easily hold its own. I am so proud of it and quick to tell people that I got it from Lindeblad Pianos. I appreciate the opportunity I had to meet and interact personally with Paul and Todd and for helping me achieve a life-long dream. I am saddened by Paul’s passing but feel so fortunate that I was able to briefly know him and appreciate what a fine outstanding person he was. What a legacy he has left his family as they continue their amazing art and craft in making people’s piano dreams come true. Mark Dyches Marietta, Georgia
Recently I purchased a 1925 Steinway B from Lindeblad Piano Restoration in New Jersey, USA. I’ve been playing for 70 years and professionally as a collaborative pianist in NYC and New England for the past 50. It was very exciting to see the ad for this piano on the Lindeblad site. It was a step up from my 1924 Steinway L and most importantly I’d now have a room big enough for the B. But of course the notion of buying a piano unheard and sight unseen is anxiety producing to say the least. If you visit the Lindeblad site I think the first thing you notice is the wealth of information that’s provided. It’s very much a level-headed presentation of things you should think about before making such a purchase. Naturally, you can compare this presentation to others online. But in my opinion very little of that comes close to the Lindeblad site. Eventually I scheduled a video chat with Todd Lindeblad during which I described who I was, how I wanted to use the piano, and, the type of situation in which it would be located. He gave me feedback and more details. Not only was this informational but it was reassuring that on the NJ end of this possible transaction there was a real person who was concerned enough to talk with me.. After a day or two my wife and I decided to move ahead with the purchase feeling confident that the way the piano was represented and regarded was right for us. Thereafter the entire process of a deposit, scheduling, final payment and along the way the ability to pose and get timely responses to any questions asked, this all was straightforward, clear and timely. Delivery occurred just before a major snowstorm in NH on April 3, 2024. And subsequently the week after there was a tuning. It’s difficult to describe what a dream-come-true this piano is. But it is. It’s the perfect piano for my use. It’s equipped with a PianoDisk optical recording system which is also very convenient to my work with singers. My interest in upgrading from the L to the B was a better sound integration of the registers and this piano achieves that goal. Plus it is simply a beautiful instrument and I love playing it. It has enormous expressive range which is controllable, a stunning quietness when you want it, and the ability to project a beautiful singing legato. There were useful follow-up checks via email during the weeks after delivery and all I can say is that this is a deluxe service in every regard that will not disappoint you!
Lindeblad Piano Restoration is a company who sincerely wants to make their clients happy by giving excellent workmanship. I received the piano, a completely restored LouisXV 1911 model B, to its shining glory... beautiful sound, evenness of touch...it was beyond my expectations. I highly recommend Lindeblad for those who is seeking piano they would love for a lifetime.
UPDATE 9/27/23: An email I sent to Todd today, a couple of years after purchase: "Hey Todd, you sold me a 1965 Hamburg Steinway B couple of years ago… I'm the doctor who lives in Myrtle Beach who bought a $70,000 instrument sight unseen in under 12 hours 🤣. I just wanted to let you know I cannot tell you how much joy this instrument has brought me. Is the best piano I've ever played, and I've owned a New York B and a New York D. My technician, Phil Romano (who incidentally is Paul McCartney's preferred piano technician on tour) is also impressed, particularly with the treble and the instrument's overall power. Thanks again! Eric Senn MD Sent from my iPhone I bought a fully restored 1965 Hamburg Steinway B from Lindeblad. I cannot think of a single thing that could have been improved in terms of the purchase and delivery process, and I'm an extremely particular person when it comes to music, and customer service. Even after a brief conversation with Todd and others I spoke with, it was evident that this is a longstanding, trustworthy family business - one where the owners and employees love what they do and are expert at it. They were honest and trustworthy in every way. They exceeded my expectations at every turn. Now, as to the piano: It is stunning, the best piano I've every played in terms of regulation, voicing and evenness across the entire register. I have previously owned another NY Steinway B and a NY Steinway D and this piano is easier to play and more responsive. To be fair, of course, NOTHING can beat a D in the bass register owing to the extra two feet - but this B is pretty close. And the treble! It just sings with that lovely Steinway bell-like tone. I couldn't be happier. You will not regret doing business with these folks - the warranty and buy back arrangements are also unprecedented! I have purchased my last piano. - Eric Senn MD
The way Todd runs his business is something you do not see anymore these days. Lindeblad has been a pleasure to work with. They were patient with me, honest, and plainly just do great work. I am absolutely in love with my Steinway B, and Lindeblad went above and beyond to make sure I am 100% satisfied with my purchase. My piano plays like it is brand new (super responsive) and sounds amazing. I tend to over worry and I was anticipating all the things that would go wrong, but it was all unfounded. My piano is perfect. I cannot recommend them enough, and would not hesitate to steer anyone looking for a piano, new or used, towards a restored piano from Lindeblad!
My Steinway grand was delivered to California all the way from NJ last week! It was a pleasure to work with Lindeblad Piano. Todd and his team were extremely efficient and professional. They provided a lot of details and offered a lot of video calls considering that I was making a long distance purchase. They made sure the piano was in perfect condition. The delivery was right on time and the first tuning is already scheduled. I appreciate that they have strong network in all areas of US, and responds to my questions timely. My piano is perfect and meet my expectation in every aspect! Their service was fantastic and very personal! Strongly recommend!
Nine years ago I was looking for a piano and came across a very special 1910 Hamburg Steinway B at Lindeblad Pianos. After several attempts to achieve the desired voicing and tone, it became necessary to change the hammers on the piano. Lindeblad helped in the process and made possible a musical instrument worthy of the name. My thanks to Lindeblad for standing behind their restoration work and product James Schmieder
Review Lindeblad Piano Restoration What do you do when your piano tuner tells you your 61-year-old Steinway B was in trouble and needed a complete restoration? Well, panic, first. Then research. Lindeblad Piano Restoration was our first choice because it was family run and was approaching the fifth generation with a total of 101 years of experience. Their videos provided absolute clear information of the process to be followed. So, in August 2021 their piano movers arrived, carefully wrapped the piano in bubble wrap and mover’s blankets and wheeled it through the house into the truck. Five months later, my piano returned to the premier location in my music room. How can you explain perfection? The same glorious singing tone was intact. The new German action was perfect. I cannot keep my hands off the keys. Even missing veneer was replaced. Strings, pin block, pins, and action replaced rusting strings, slipping pins, and totally worn-out action. In fact, only original parts of the piano were the case, harp, sound board, keys, and pedals. I knew Lindeblad Piano Restoration would care for my piano as if it were their own. They were in touch with me through out the five months. I was even able to choose a pianist friend to play it before it was shipped back. I love my Steinway B. It sounds pretty. It is a pleasure to play. Choosing Lindeblad Piano Restoration over two other companies was the best decision I could have made.
Really wonderful business, run with traditional, personal customer service values that are rare these days. But even more important is the quality of the craftsmanship. The cabinet and finishing work on this 1913 Model B is impeccable. The sound and touch perfect to my taste. The pin block must have been done very well - it has held its intonation despite transfer from the Lindeblad facility to a truck and to my home. I highly recommend Lindeblad!
We had the pleasure of traveling to New Jersey to meet with Todd Lindeblad at his company headquarters, and to see first-hand what goes into a full restoration of a Steinway through their process. Right from the start, we received a warm welcome from Todd, a comprehensive tour of their showroom and many finished pianos, and then we visited the factory. Todd was amazing, very attentive and informative. He answered all of our questions patiently, told great stories about some of the pianos from around the world that Lindeblad Pianos have restored. He also talked about the nature of this business as a multi-generational family mission and passion, which is a large part of what makes a Lindeblad restoration so special. During our factory tour, we were blown away by the very evident old-world craftsmanship and the obvious passion and attention to detail demonstrated by everyone that we interacted with. The warmth, friendliness, and open accessibility to the expert craftsmen on the production floor really made us feel confident in our contemplation of Lindeblad Pianos as a great option. We interacted with many of Lindeblad’s craftsmen and specialists, including an impressively experienced technician named Galo who explained a new soundboard that he was installing as part of another restoration process (we later had him sign our piano!). We looked at many options, balancing condition, cost, features, and ultimately selected a beautiful, sturdy 1926 Steinway Model B from their extensive pre-restoration inventory. Todd helped us understand and walk-through examples of every step of the restoration process, so that we could intelligently make various selections around the ultimate configuration of our particular restoration project. This further instilled confidence in the entire process and bolstered our experience as a customer as we interacted with the actual people performing the necessary work to re-craft these special instruments. The restoration finish we chose was a two-toned configuration that is really unique and stunning – a glossy hand-polished piano-black outside, and a custom-laminated cherry-stained interior that elegantly features both the external and internal beauty of our Steinway. We grew a lot of confidence by seeing in-person what the Lindeblad Piano people do, how they do it, all in an atmosphere so obviously filled with genuine passion for these instruments – coupled with so many impressive, combined years of experience in doing this specialized work – some even having learned this craft building brand-new Steinways over decades before coming to Lindeblad Pianos. This simply made us feel very comfortable – and even excited – about going the restoration route vs. pursuing a brand-new piano, or alternately buying a second-hand piano “as-is” out in the open market, where it seems the risks can be quite high relative to condition, remaining life, cost, value, etc. We are very fortunate in that all four of our sons have also cultivated and invested in the joy of making music while they were growing up. All of them play, and among our greatest memories are spending time with them, watching and listening to them master various pieces of music that they learned to play on the piano. Our Lindeblad-restored 1926 Steinway Model B is a stunningly beautiful, customized piano that is already a true heirloom piece for our family. We are so pleased to have made this investment, and to be able to continue building new memories when our boys, friends, etc. visit our home and play this special yet accessible instrument. This is now the perfect instrument for us to use together, to continue to build upon our mutual love of music, fellowship, laughter and emotional bonding that quality pianos are just so good at facilitating. We absolutely love our “new” / Lindeblad-restored Steinway, and we will continue to fondly remember and recount to others about the truly special experience we had in working with your company. Matt and Linda Bratenahl, Ohio April 2022
